Lost in paradise

Hot Boy Noi Loan - Cau chuyen ve thang Cuoi,
co gai diem va con vit 2011

The vietnamese title for this movie is Hot boy noi loan. I don't speak or understand vietnamese but i am almost certain that it's not a direct translation to it's english title, Lost in paradise haha. I prefer the vietnamese title. Google it up - it means rebellious hot boy. Hey it's got the word 'hot' and 'boy' in it. What's there not to like. And the boys sure look hot.

I think i read somewhere that the 2 leading men are models. Hmmm I guess the director must be thinking about his plan B. That is, just incase the movie do su*k, we can sell the guys. Good looking guys never fails to attract right. But the good news is it does not su*k. It is actually half decent.

Here is synopsis of Hot boy noi loan from IMDB -
"Khoi, a naive twenty-year-old, travels to Ho Chi Minh City from the countryside to begin a new life. It's his first time in the big city and he's looking for a place to live. He befriends Dong, a handsome extrovert who offers to share his apartment. When Khoi goes to check the place out, he meets Lam, who also appears to be living there. Khoi decides to stay, but while he showers, Dong and Lam - who turn out to be boyfriends - run off with all his cash and belongings. It's not long before Lam is himself abandoned by Dong, and winds up back on the street as a prostitute. Meanwhile the penniless and disillusioned Khoi takes on menial jobs to survive. Lam and Khoi are eventually reunited, and despite Lam's past actions, the two become closer and closer - even though Khoi becomes more and more troubled by Lam's dangerous source of income. At the same time, Cuoi, a mentally handicapped man abandoned by his family, attempts to befriend a female prostitute. Her pimps do not take kindly to his hanging around and scaring away customers, but she takes pity on him and ultimately becomes his protector."

A scene where Khoi tries to convince Lam to give up prostituting himself.
When he fails to persuade, he takes a drastic step.

Well, the basic theme of the film I think is the difficulty of surviving on the hard-hustling streets Ho Chi Minh City or as one character puts it, “We came here thinking it was paradise, but in reality we’re in a living nightmare.” It's an honest depiction of marginalized characters in the skin trade. I like it's simplicity. And Khoi is hot. No better reason to watch right.
